Khoroni Hotel Casino and Convention Resort and the Tshilwavhusiku Special School

Khoroni Hotel Casino and Convention Resort is building four classrooms at the Tshilwavhusiku Special School, and a total of R273 726 has been spent for 2016 on this project. To improve the school facilities for the special needs children from the Vhembe district which were being taught in sink classrooms without windows. We are looking at another R100k spend in the 2017 year to complete the project. This project was initially a combined project, which ended as a Khoroni project has now motivated local governance to recognise the schools growing needs and has budgeted and started building eight more classrooms with office facility’s, ablution facilities and a nutrition centre for the school.

The teachers are passionate and have a love for working with these special needs children and this is obvious when one watches the teachers interacting with the children. The love pours from this establishment of 20 staff and 200 children ranging from Grade R to Grade 12. Current facilities at the start of 2016 was 6 permanent classrooms and 4 sink classrooms with office space for the staff room and principles office and a make shift lean too serving as the nutritional centre.

The children have special needs where some have mild learning disabilities or profound cognitive impairment. The school also makes both wood and metal furniture in their workshop departments, and baking of cakes, vetkoek, scones ect. in their culinary department. All these items the school sell to raise funds to improve the facilities for the children.
